Biblical visions and dreams

According to Job, chapters 4 and 33, a dream is defined as “visions of the night.” By this definition, it is not a stretch to define dreams and visions in the same category. Yet, dreams are experienced during the night and visions during the day, while fully awake and conscious.

One of the first accounts of visions being mentioned in the Bible is found in Genesis 15:1 when God said, "Do not fear, Abram, I am a shield to you; Your reward shall be very great."

What a great promise!

Although, God loves this form of communication with His servants, it's important to note that this phenomenon is not limited to just His followers. In Genesis 20:3, God warns Pharaoh in a vision of the night that he is a dead man if he takes Sarah, Abraham's wife. And the best part is that Pharaoh actually listened. Again, in Daniel 5, God gives King Belshazzar an open vision of a hand writing on the wall. In this scenario, Daniel interprets its meaning and was confirmed the same night.

It is inspiring to know that God does not just reserve this encounter for Believers. This brings a whole new excitement to praying for our leaders, whether they are serving God or not. Let's pray that God speaks to them through visions in the night and day for direction in how to lead our nation.

Personally, I've experienced visions in the night and during the day. For a season, I would have visions while awake—which felt a lot like dreams. Some were sporadic and random, just like dreams, while others gave me words of knowledge for people and even led to one of my friends getting physically healed. In these experiences, I would still be able to see and hear what was going on around me, but a fuzzy dream-like state would overlay my normal vision. Other times, the visions would be so real that I couldn't tell I was having a vision until minutes into the encounter.

If you haven't experienced them yet, don't be discouraged. God wants and will talk to you. He speaks to the lost and to the saved. He spoke to individuals in the Old Testament, New Testament, and in the End Times, so why not now as well? Expect God to show up and He will.
