I watch a young mentally disabled girl get harassed by the people of a city. They call her names, make fun of her, and insult her because of her disability. Their strength and perfection appear only to increase their hatred for her weakness. Their insults become violent, and each condemning word begins to manifest into physical form. It is too much to bear—I lunge between the attacking mob and their defenseless victim. My attempts to keep them pacified only become exacerbated when Satan materializes out of thin air. With him, a demonic host appears, which sets the people of the city running.
As I take shelter, I look back to find the girl. To my surprise, she is not leaving. She is walking straight toward Satan. I shout out, warning her to hide. The poor girl does not hear me. Clearly, she is ignorant of the danger before her. Satan puffs up as he prepares to consume his first victim. He enlarges his physical size, which makes him all the more menacing. The once strong people are nowhere to be found, and only the disabled girl stands between him and the city.
With each step forward, the girl meets him with one of her own. Satan smirks, with victory decorating his twisted smile. He and his minions prepare for a feast. Then, just as her end is about to come, she reaches out with a single finger and touches Satan. I want to stop her. I want her safe, but there is nothing I can do now. As her weak, handicapped body touches the face of hell, Satan instantly implodes into a thousand pieces. I cannot believe what just happened. I am about to celebrate, but my sighs of relief are quickly followed by the cloud of dust, debris, and light rematerializing as I watch Satan take on an even more sinister form. This time he is larger, with features that resemble more of a beast than man.
Jagged edges protract from his skin, making him appear deadly to the touch. Yet, again, the girl ignorantly steps up to him without a care in the world.
She reaches out, just as the first time, and Satan obliterates into a debris of debris. Even quicker, he reforms into an even more terrifying form. Aggravated, he makes the first move. Yet again, he is destined to a cloud of dirt. Now, as his last stand, he manifests himself into human form with a sword in hand. He extends his arm, pointing his weapon, bidding her come. Hatred and violence spew from his horrid stare.
His nemesis is young, small, and naive. She is no taller than the average adolescent, and she is not attractive, talented, or has any foreseen earthly value. She could barely take care of herself. Yet, she alone is the only heroine restraining the horde of hell from consuming the very city that rejected her.
With arms at her side, she takes off, rushing towards certain death. She doesn't flinch or break her gaze as she plunges her body straight through Satan's raised sword. Horrified, I believe all hope is lost. Yet, on this day, death did not find her. Darkness had no hold. As before, pieces of Satan's once majestic form expel in every direction. Satan and his host retreat from the city and rethink their tactics—believing their only hope now is to go after the children. I awake from the dream.
Satan has no authority.
If he did, he would have taken Eden by force. Yet, as the narrative reveals, he had to deceive Adam and Eve to have any form of dominion. He disguised himself. He was hiding behind a form that wouldn't reveal his true intent.
"For He (Jesus) rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son. When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him. Colossians 1:13; 2:15
"Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." James 4:7
Through Christ, we inherit victory. Our victory is not dependent on our strength, intelligence, or ability to memorize Bible verses! That might sound like hypocrisy, but read the verses above again. It is through Christ ALONE we have dominion, even over the devil.
Just as the dream above illustrated, the hero was not a noble, majestic knight. It was a young girl with mental and physical limitations. And as all the strong fled, she stood and faced the world's greatest enemy. She resisted the temptation to fear and championed her devil.
When she stood, Satan had to flee.
What are your devils, and how is God calling you to stand?
